The University of Maryland and Northwood High School are establishing a collaborative learning community of students, faculty, staff, and parents with benefits for all concerned. The program helps prepare high school and college students for success as they pursue degrees, meaningful employment, and leadership roles in the community.

Goals

ACCESS: Increase access to higher education for Northwood students, especially for those who are the first in their families to attend college.

ARTICULATION: Improve curricular connections between high school and college.

COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING: Provide rich opportunities for students at both schools to participate in service-learning and internships.

This joint initiative is a response to the Maryland Higher Education Commission's Maryland Student Outcomes and Achievement Report, which suggested that a large number of Maryland 's public school graduates require developmental courses to succeed in college level courses.
